National Consumer Protection Week 2013

National Consumer Protection Week 2013

National Consumer Protection Week, held March 3-9, 2013, is a coordinated campaign designed to focus on the importance of keeping consumers informed while providing consumers with free resources explaining their rights in the marketplace.

The campaign’s website, NCPW.gov, available in English and Spanish, hosts a variety of resources on topics that matter to the nation’s consumers.

“The NCPW website has information that can help consumers understand their rights, protect their privacy, avoid identity theft, recognize scams, manage their credit and debt, and even report fraud,” said Charles Harwood, acting director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “Consumers also can download materials from the site to share with family and friends or use at community events to help people be more informed.”

For the past 15 years, a broad coalition has worked together to share tips and information about privacy protection, money and debt management, and recognizing identity theft, frauds and scams. This year, Paramount Law will focus on fraudulent calls from scam artists posing as debt collectors.  Here in Oklahoma, about half of our potential clients with horrific stories of abuse by debt collectors are actually getting called by true criminals that have no relationship with any debt that may be actually owed by the consumer.

If you are getting called by debt collectors, demand that they contact you in writing.  If you have questions regarding their legitimacy, contact us.  We’ll be happy to help you with your rights under the FDCPA.
